One thing I seem to notice growing older is that society fills everyone with contradictions. Let me give you a few examples:

    * “You can be anything you put your mind to.”  False, you must first be given the opportunity.

    *  “Money doesn’t make you happy.”  Yeah,  but that’s the only thing society tells you ever does.

    * “You are beautiful just the way you are.” Sure, but we are going to put photo shopped  covers of models on magazines and taunt you that you simply “don’t want it enough.”

    * “Failure is good.” Sure, but school and jobs all teach you to measure your worth on what you have accomplished, not what you have failed at.

    * “You don’t need someone else to be happy.” False, humans are hardwired for social connection, and isolation can lead to an early death.

    * “Hard work is the key to success.” If that is true, why are millions of people stuck working for 1 dollar a day just to get by? Is it really because they aren’t working hard enough?

    * “You shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone else.” But we are going to make this as difficult as possible by literally structuring your entire life around comparing your progress to others by conditioning you from school and onward.

Perhaps I am a social hermit, but now that I have realize how full of garbage society is, I begin to despise it, and perhaps that’s a good thing, as I can see it for the blatant façade that it is and therefore no longer need to live by its “rules.”

I understand where you’re coming from, but I think the way to deal with them is to look at them from different angles 🙂 I can’t think of examples for all but hopefully these will help a bit:

When people say you don’t need another person to make you happy, in my experience they’re nearly always referring to romantic partners, but romance is hardly the only type of meaningful social connection you can have with another person. A lot of people will try and deny that, though. Single/no real friends doesn’t necessarily mean ‘isolated’.

Failure: everyone experiences it, most people hopefully learn something from it; perseverance is important as well. Broadly speaking, you can’t succeed or indeed get better without failing, really.

Those are one liners that are not absolute truths.

Life is more nuanced and situational.
