Okay everyone, I am 39.  I talk to this girl ever once, only talking, okay.  She works at CVS.  But she’s cool and nice.  I would like take out sometime to lunch and know about her more.  But her age 20, sometime.  I feel weird about it.

It depends on the couple of whether it matters or not (speaking only of those who are of the age of consent, of course). However, trusting my instinct and facing reality, I think you would mesh better with someone closer to your age. You are in a much different place than a 20 year old. A 20 year old is still in maturity development, new to adulthood, etc. She might feel uncomfortable. I am 23 and would not mesh with a 39 year old, but that is me. Don’t take this as me guilt-tripping you, I am just thinking of the most logical outcome.

    Hi Chris,

Does age matter? Yes! Of course it does, especially with a 19 year age gap.

Some people will tell you no and go on about how Mr A did similar, but what you hardly hear is what happened in the long run. You see, just because something works out for Mr A, doesn’t mean its going to work for Mr B given the same conditions.

However, you need to know that a 20 year old will never have the same level of maturity or experience as a 39 year old. Assuming you’re seeking something long term.

If you’re seeking something casual or not serious, I’d say that’s not a good thing to do to a girl that young. You’re only gonna leave her with heartache and trust issues. You’re better off with some 27-39 in my opinion. But ask yourself this, why am I interested in a girl 19 years younger than I am rather than a 30 year old? Kinda says a bit about you doesn’t it?

I disagree. A 20 year old female is probably more mature than a man of any age. In order to survive and in especially in today’s age a girl needs to mature and quickly. If she down and you down – who cares what thy naysayers speak?

Chris, If you have to question or ask then you probably should move on.

    Hi Chris,

An age gap is a number, I’ve been in the situation when I have to deal with the age gap, the problem was the level of our mind works and our perceptive of anything was different.
But everything is about communication, how to communicate with each other. The skill of communication will help, to connect, and to understand each other.
And I agree about “20 years old is still in maturity development” but with the skill of communication, people will be able to make everything works.
But if you feel weird in the first place I have nothing to say about it except, I felt the same way too when I have to deal with the age gap, and I read that as not a good sign, but I kept forcing myself to fit in when the inner me refused to accept it. And everything didn’t work so well because of the basic, doubting and didn’t even trust me.
The basic is the most important thing and you have to listen inner you 🙂

    with a handshake,
    Nadia
