Lucas Samuel DavidsonParticipantHey Tiny buddha, I’m going through a really rough phase in life right now. I feel exhausted and tired all the time. Even though I have friends, I don’t feel like talking to anyone because I’m scared of being judged.
Last Sunday, I went to a dog park, and for the first time in months, I genuinely felt happy and relaxed, like a huge weight had lifted off my chest. Since then, I’ve been thinking about getting a pet for myself.
The problem is I live in a no-pet building. I’ve even looked into pet-friendly apartments, but they’re out of my budget. I really don’t know what to do, and I’m hoping someone here might have advice or ideas on how I can still have a pet in some way.

AlessaParticipantHi Lucas
I’m sorry to hear that you’re feeling tired and afraid of being judged. ❤️
Do you feel like your friends judge you? ❤️
I’m glad to hear that going to the dog park helped cheer you up. Perhaps you should go back again?
Animals are such pure souls aren’t they?
Well if you can’t move immediately there are websites you can use to essentially borrow someone else’s dog temporarily. Borrowmydoggy for example.

anitaParticipantWelcome to tiny buddha, Lucas!
I hope that you get to feel genuinely happy and relaxed more often. Returning to the dog park, visiting other outdoor open places, as well as volunteering in a pet shelter may help.
You mentioned that you are scared of being judged by your friends. Dogs don’t judge, do they..?

DebbieParticipantHi Lucas,
I currently have 6 dogs and 4 cats. Best part of my day is coming home to my furry friends always so happy to see me.
Some ideas…
-visit the dog park again (if you feel the need just explain to other folks that you love animals but can’t have them where you live)
-volunteer at your local animal shelter, most have programs where you can take a dog out for the day or just for a walk
-get your animal fix and make some extra cash by becoming a pet sitter in people’s homes, you can sign up on apps like Rover, Care, etc. or make contacts at the dog park
-perhaps you can start being a dog walker for someone in your neighborhood
-if you’re a cat lover, see if there’s a cat cafe in your area
-volunteer for a rescue not to foster animals but to help at adoption events, then you can be with the animals and help them find homesAnimals give so much. I genuinely hope one day you’ll be able to own a dog or cat of your own.
Peace,
Debbie
