I started something like this in another category, however it spurred off into something that seems to fit here now. Over the past month, for the first time ever, I have cleaned my house top to bottom(and kept it that way,) gotten off of sodas and started drinking mainly green and chamomile/lavender tea, I have switched out all my cfl bulbs for candlelight, installed fountains in 2 rooms, started meditating and using aromatherapy daily, I’ve stopped drinking sodas and started drinking chamomile/lavender and green teas, and I’ve started to take better care of my body. Is this what a spiritual awakening is like?

August 1, 2017 at 1:12 pm #161605PearceHawkParticipantColby spiritual awakening is many things and I think that in a neat and clean environment such as yours allows for more opportunity to think more clearly and become more spiritually connected with yourself and whomever you worship. I have been on a journey that has lasted years and I hope it last a lifetime because with each and every moment I spend meditating I get benefits that I had no idea were coming-all good of course. Just as your soul is your temple so too is your home. When I have not been attentive to keeping my place clean, for example 3 days I feel ‘not right’ inside, sort of toxic. The same thing is true with my soul. When I start to complain to myself about waiting in line at the store, or something else like that, my soul feels gray, sort of muddy.
But I hope that you keep learning about that, I hope your journey is a lifetime, and that you are at peace.

Glad you started another thread. What you described is an awakening. One definition of the verb awaken is to become aware of something for the first time. Maybe you were somewhat aware of something before, but for the first time you are more aware, emotionally and physically aware, not only rationally.
And so, you awakened to the benefits of cleanliness of your home, of taking better care of your body, of drinking mainly green and chamomile/ lavender tea instead of sodas, of using candlelight, meditation, aromatherapy.
Congratulations! Share more about your awakenings, if you would like. I will read and reply.

August 3, 2017 at 8:04 am #161872colbyParticipantAnita, I would be honored to share more about my awakening. As I said, I have pretty much embraced the minimalist lifestyle, along with that I have stopped watching tv per se. I “cut the cord” over a year ago, and now I find that most of what I watch are relaxation programs such as naturevisiontv, nature relaxation, etc. I also used to have a brush pile in my backyard for the area critters to use, which I got rid of and started landscaping my yard. Ironically, my cats have been spending tons more time in my yard since I cleaned it up. I’ve been using meditation to curb my stress more than I used to, I have started to turn back to the mother Earth for comfort instead of to societies trappings. I’m also wanting to go back to yoga instead of weight training. I’m just not sure how I could break that to my trainer.

August 3, 2017 at 8:12 am #161878colbyParticipantActually, probably the biggest thing that has happened is that for the first time ever, I honestly do not care what others think of me. They either accept me or they don’t, and that’s their problem.
August 3, 2017 at 8:38 am #161888AnonymousGuestDear Colby:
The most exciting to me, of your awakening is that you “do not care what others think of (you)”- I like that very much. But it is not about what I like, of course, your awakening is about what you like, what you choose, what you value.
And what you value includes a minimalist lifestyle. You choose to not watch TV other than a few chosen shows; you chose to clear the brush pile in your yard (something your cats benefit from as well)… you choose. Choosing is the key word in awakening, making thoughtful choices, being aware.
Because you choose yoga over weight training, I hope you do let your trainer know of your choice. Asserting oneself so to actualize a thoughtful choice is sometimes necessary.

I am excited twice in a row, reading your posts today: this time it is about you asserting yourself, “standing for something”! I like that very much.

August 3, 2017 at 9:41 am #161908colbyParticipantThe strange part is that this whole transformation started over a year ago, but back then I had 3 or 4 cats inside, so I was using battery operated candles. I had no idea that real candles carried so much positive energy.
August 3, 2017 at 10:13 am #161916LifeInsideJackParticipantThis has been enjoyable to read. I love the Spiritual Awakening part most. For as many people experience this there just as many ways. I knew one woman who simply stopped wearing make-up and she was liberated. For us, we went from 1,000 square feet of living space to 168. Everyone has their own thing that brings them to a place where communing with the Amazing is possible.
Cleanliness is a great way to unclutter not just your surroundings, but our minds also. All those tasks “we should be doing” are done and out of the way. Now the practice of stillness, quietness and un-busy can be enjoyed without the nagging of our “we must be productive” thoughts.
This is so fun!
August 3, 2017 at 10:48 am #161928colbyParticipantAllright, I just cleared yoga with my trainer!!! He’s a lifetime weightlifter/nutritionist, so I wasn’t sure how it would go over. He said if yoga’s helping me relax then just stick with it:)

August 4, 2017 at 7:35 am #162112colbyParticipantI feel like I’m embracing the new age here. I’ve been using aromatherapy, and am planning on starting massage therapy as an alternative to traditional treatments. Its like I’m a new person.
