Have you already tried the Paleo diet, which seems to be the leading \”new\” nutritional trend?

Yep, I like it. I would never stick at it because I like rice too much, but I always feel great staying away from carbs.

I think the paleo diet is just a “sexy” word for eating whole natural foods, rather than food-like-products that don’t naturally exist. And of course if we eat this way, we will be healthier (and lose weight)!

My problem with the paleo diet is that historically the term is very inaccurate and misleading. There’s a nice Tedx talk on it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMOjVYgYaG8

Also the restrictions placed on non-paleo foods is confusing. For example rice is forbidden. Yet the people that live the longest, healthiest lives – from Okinawa in Japan – have a diet that is more than 70% rice (white). Plus some vegetables and some meat once in a while. They are living the longest.

How does that work if rice is so bad for you?

Joe makes some very good points.

I have tried eating Paleo and lasted only 2 days. I stopped after I ate a steak as big as a plate in addition to an entire plate of vegetables (I was planning on saving leftovers for the next day’s lunch). I was still hungry for more after eating these huge portions.

I broke the diet and ate some whole grains because I figured that if I’m that hungry, I’m not getting all the nutrition I need from the food I’m eating.

That said, I think eating mostly paleo is the best way to eat (mostly vegetables, a bit of meat and fish, and also a bit of grain), as long as you listen to your body and don’t get stressed out over it.

I actually wrote an article on eating paleo, if you’re interested check it out: http://dellaterrawellness.com/should-you-go-paleo/

It’s long, if you skip to the last ten minutes or so you get a nice overview, and some valuable information on how our nutrition guidelines are skewed.
