I’ve been holding off moving away to Arizona for some time now, even though I know that’s what I really want to do. I live in the south suburbs of chicago and there’s really nothing here. And by ‘here’ I mean the midwest as a whole. I’m so tired of it here. I need sunshine. The only reason I haven’t moved is because of other’s people putting doubt in my head. “You need this” and “You can’t move that far away without this” when in reality, I’ve read and seen many people move to different countries with less than I have let alone another state. I know I can do it, and I know I should do it. The only doubt have in my head is not being able to find a job right away when I get there but I have money saved up so I’ll be good for some time. I just want to know if I should follow my gut and move or follow the ‘careful route’ and listen to everyone else? I can feel that moving would be the right choice, but I’m scared it will end up being the wrong choice. Help me have more confidence in my intuition.

It’s not their life, it’s yours. If you want to move, I think you should do so. Nobody knows what is behind others people’s motives, when they tell you not too. They may be a little envious, because deep down, they want to move to and can’t. I moved from Florida to Seattle by myself. Not knowing anyone, no family, no friends. It was scary. I did it for for different reasons than you. Just got tired of no change of seasons, the unrelenting hear and humidity, lack of technical jobs, tourists, etc. One of best decisions I ever made. I made new friend rapidly, and found a roommate quickly, no problem finding a job out there. Then in 1997, has the worst break-up of my life there, and decided to move to Cincinnati, OH, to be closer to my Dad. He has now passed. I don’t like the Midwest too much either. It’s very cold. So, follow your heart and don’t listen to the “naysayers”. Happy New Year.

You asked for help so to have more trust in your intuition.
I see your struggle not in what you want (to move to Arizona) vs what other people want you to do (to not move out of Chicago).
I see your struggle in what part of you wants to do, to move and another part of you that is afraid to do so.
How to resolve such a conflict: understand, first, that a move, a change like this does carry risks. There are ingredients to the move that will be out of your control, such as the job market, that can be good today and change tomorrow. And there are things in your control, what you can do now to prepare for the move best you can.
You can only increase your chances to make the move successful, you can’t guarantee it.
If the move turns out to be unsuccessful even though you prepared best you can, and it seemed like a reasonable move at the time, following thorough research and examination, then it will not be a bad choice if it failed. This is because we can’t guarantee success. We don’t have enough control of circumstances and conditions to guarantee that.
Even with enough savings for ten years is not a guarantee.
Do the best research and examination that you can, in a word document, if you want. Ask other people only for relevant information, as part of your research. Make sure their information is relevant, not an expression of their fears (you don’t need more of that).
