I feel like I’ve wavered in and out of a state of happiness. I get to a point where I finally start to feel grounded, happy, and on the right path but then I get lost and don’t realize it till some time later. I keep finding myself in situations where I feel like I keep repeating the same things over and over. I keep running into the same problems and most likely because I’m too scared of change. I think I have always had a problem accomplishing things. I’ve started so many little projects or had all these ideas about how I want to garden and eat whole foods and knit and be the perfect parent and live a happy fulfilled life of enlightenment and raise my daughter to be a good person, work on cars and have a project car, bake and cook more, travel etc.etc. I could make a list probably 10 miles long. I don’t even know if it’s possible to fill all the roles I want to fill. How do you choose what to do, and how do you actually accomplish it instead of looking at it off in the distant as in a someday I will do it but in reality I never will. I wish there was a way to be able to do all the things I want to do, to feel accomplished and not so sad and feeling like a failure and just plain stuck.
I’m not sure if this is the right area because i couldn’t really find an area that would fit for this.

If you have a daughter, raising her is The Accomplishment. The One Thing You Have To Do. Everything else is Optional. If you get to them, great. If not, it doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t. There’s no angel in heaven saying, “No garden? Bad knitter? Junk food? Where’s that car?”

Now, for things that you are already doing, I downloaded an app called Keep it Green. For gardening, I put in Once a Week, and when it turns Yellow, I know that it’s time for me to water the plants. It’s really a Habit App. I also have down Exercise 3X a week. But guess what? I didn’t exercise last week!!! The worst thing that happened was that it turned Yellow, then Red, then Grey, then Blue. My kids came first OH WELL. Some days it is all Green and then I pat myself on the back.

    Keep it Light!

    Skye,

Rejoice! Feel content that you have so many goals you wish to accomplish for there are those who sadly aren’t in a position to do so. While you may not be able to perform them all, perhaps choose which you believe you can accomplish within your limits and simply revel in their moments. Life, to the optimists, will always be filled with some kind of regret in old age. However, there will also be much contentment in retrospect. And, in general, there will always be pros and cons to every decision we wish to make. Hence, this is why I stated that we must simply do our best to live in the moment and especially so when we do things we love and enjoy. Adopting and retaining this view will greatly help. I hope this helps.

    Skye,

You can live one day at a time. We all start out as babies and eventually get older. Our understanding doesnt come in a day. Similarly, its good to have goals but you must realize that goals are of different natures- some take more time, some get done in a day. Say, i want to be good at math (A+) while i am getting D’s right now. It will not happen in a day but it can happen if i work consistency every day, right? In my mind, i want to be the A-grader math geek but right now, i am simply someone trying to improve my level. Even if i get to A+, I can only stay there so far..eventually i will have to work to stay there.

So dear friend, you’re in the first stage. Prioritize what is important to you and work at it day by day. Life is very precious and so is time. You might necessarily be able to do 40 things right but try to do atleast 2-3 very well.

“I’ve started so many little projects or had all these ideas about how I want to garden and eat whole foods and knit and be the perfect parent and live a happy fulfilled life of enlightenment and raise my daughter to be a good person, work on cars and have a project car, bake and cook more, travel etc.etc.”

This is all great but rather scattered – prioritize as per your values. What are your long-term, short-term goals? Which goals will take more time to work on? Which ones can you actually do on an every day basis?

For example, living a happy fulfilled life is great but thats your whole life ahead of you. Seeing how your daughter will turn out might take some decades to really see…so how do you know exactly? You dont! But you can start by looking after your health – emotional and physical. You can love your daughter everyday without worrying. You can simply enjoy cooking sometimes or bake a cake.

It isnt as much as what you do as how it makes you feel – my priorities may be different from yours but we can both enjoy this present moment – a beautiful day, a smile, good music and feeling joy..think about it 🙂 Perhaps you will see my point.

Climb your mountain all you want but enjoy your climb and appreciate the peaks you reach.
