    Hey guys!

I’m a current high school student and one of my assignments involves a personal interest research project that is related to society and culture. My topic is on escapism and how people from varying demographics and subcultures react or deal with the complex events that have been occurring around the world. I’ve put out a questionnaire to my peers, have interviewed psychologists, and am now transitioning into a more nuanced aspect of my topic and as per my teacher’s suggestion, was looking to interview practitioners of Buddhism and how their spirituality lets them make sense of the world. I wanted to see if whether this would get any traction in this site before I made the questionnaire/interview questions. Any thoughts/suggestions would be great. Thanks!

    Dear saadat:

Your research topic is fascinating, and I appreciate your deep exploration of how different groups engage with escapism in response to global events. I’m not a Buddhist practitioner, but I do follow certain Buddhist principles, particularly the idea of removing illusions from my thinking and seeing reality as it is.

In that sense, I approach life not through escapism, but by consciously engaging with reality—accepting it as it is rather than seeking to escape. I’d be happy to share my perspective if you think it would be relevant to your research. Perhaps contrasting this approach with more conventional ideas of escapism could add a new dimension to your study.

Let me know if I can contribute in any way, and I wish you the best with your project!
