You know that scene in “Sex in the City” where Carrie get’s dumped on a post-it note? Well I was dumped via e-mail, but it had just about as many words as a post it not. After hanging out with you last night, I don’t think we should date anymore. I mean, where was the obligatory “thank you” at the end? Rude.

Dear Jamie,

Oy. Not fun! That’s like a high schooler dumping you by sticking a post-it note on your locker door. Crappy! How someone ends a relationship tells you a lot about their developmental growth. This person has a lot of learning to do. Unless you want to continue to date a juvenile, you are way better off moving on!

That was such a cowardly way to end your relationship! I completely agree with Kelly that the way a person ends a relationship reveals much about their character.

I know you may still be hurting, but please think of this person as doing you a tremendous favor by providing you with the opportunity to create a relationship with another, mature adult.

Hi Terez,

I loved when you said “think about of this person as doing you a tremendous favor by providing you with the opportunity to create a relationship with another, mature adult.” What a great way of looking at it. When we let go of one thing, it often makes room for something better. 🙂

I totally understand.I was broken up with on messenger with what I thought was “The love of my life”(3 year relationship).And to rub salt in the wound she also told me she had met someone and was in love.Talk about a punch in the gut….

Without a doubt being unceremoniously dumped can be painful. Yet as you so beautifully put it, when we let go of the past, we open ourselves up to the future with all its exciting possibilities.
