    hello

I recently found out something that made me very angry at a certain person. They are not the person I thought they were. I feel that this anger comes into my mind every few minutes, distracting me. I fantasize about ways to “get this person back.” I have been feeling this way for @ 1 week, and haven’t acted on anything. I feel like I want to hurry through the anger part of the acceptance process. I don’t want to do anything I will regret, like starting a conversation which could incite a blow up. I also know that the anger is because there are feelings of my inferiority underneath it. I have written letters never to be sent. Any other ideas that I could help wash away these feelings so I can feel more peaceful?

    Thanks 🙂

    Some ideas that I use:

    • Deep breathing
    • Reminding myself how important my peace is to me
    • Assess the importance of the person to me – if the person is not important for me I would remind myself not to waste my time and emotions on the person
    • Overcome my inferiority by focusing on my strengths
    • Visualize the turbulence that anger causes as waves in a storm and visualize the still waters underneath the waves to restore the feeling of calm

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Dear Sheelanagig:

Feeling anger at a person means you believe that the person mistreated you. Sometimes we feel anger at people who didn’t mistreat us, but we believe they did. So first, figure out if the person really did mistreat you. If he or she did, then figure what it is that you need to do. Once you do what is needed, what is most effective, the anger then would serve its purpose and relax.

I wonder if you are referring to the man you shared about on the other thread. If you would like to share about the nature of the mistreatment, please do. Maybe I can help you figure out what it is that you need to do, what would be effective.

    * I will soon be away from the computer for about 15 hours.
