For years, when I would look for advice on how to deal with my emotions, keeping a journal or writing would always pop up, but I tended to hate everything I’d written (English was one of my strong subjects in school, so I always “graded” my experiences instead of just letting them be what they were.) And I never really got round to writing anything, let alone a song or a poem.
But I’ve turned over a new leaf, and whenever I wrote in school, although it would be frustrating when I would have only short bursts of inspiration and then couldn’t find what I wanted to say next, I enjoyed it. So I’ve decided that when I’mnot just writing down my experiences as they are, I’ turning theminto R&B songs. This song is called ” Old Thing Back.” I tried to think back to when my last relationship ended, and the guilt and regret that followed me for what seemed like forever. So, here goes :
I wish (I wish)
I wasn’t always trying to be right
I wish (I wish)
I wasn’t always trying to pick a fight
I wish (I wish)
I was a little more considerate
I wish (I wish)
We could go back where we left
Off, there’s so many thing I wish I didn’t say
But I know good and damn well that there’s no way
So I wish you the best and all, but I just wish that you would call,
So I could tell you that I
Remember all those times when you and only you held me down
And when you picked me and my Bull**** up off the ground
So how did I manage
To cause you so much damage
I don’t know but
I know that you were the first one who truly got me
I know that you were the first one to see me truly
Now I know I ain’t perfect
But I can’t give this a rest
So can we get that old thing back?
It’s been 3 damn months
And I just can’t believe
I gave you so many reasons to up and leave
I thought I gave all my love
Thought I fit just like a glove
But I guess I was a size to small
What did I say that made you think I changed?
What did I do that made you walk away?
There must be a reason
That you decided on leavin,
I don’t know, but all I can is I
CHORUS
My heart can’t go on without your presence
Every kiss every smile was truly a blessing
But I know that you deserve better
So I’m gon let you do just that
But before you step, i just got to say
That although it hurts
You should have it your way
So go’ head on,
But I just have to say…
CHORUS
End.

Thank you for sharing your poem!
I like many of the rhymes, they are pleasing to me mental ear, especially these: “I wish (I wish) I wasn’t always trying to be right/ …to pick a fight” and “So how did I manage/ To cause you so much damage”
In your poem, you asked: “What did I do that made you walk away?/ There must be a reason/
That you decided on leavin”- you answered that question at least in part earlier in the poem: you were “always trying to be right… always trying to pick a fight….(and said) so many thing I wish I didn’t say”.I like it. Hope you write and share more.

I love it. It’s beautiful !!! Keep writing your songs You’ve got it right!
Nothing better than real feelings put into words in a song. I wish I could hear the melody also.
Best regards. Gr8
