The word homosexuality is the scientific word and I like science. But the prefix of the term brings, i understand, a bad feeling to many because it was used as a name calling, a humiliating degrading word. The word “gay” on the other hand, for me, is a political term, more recently used and I am not into politics. Therefore I will use the term Same Sex Love, acronym SSL to indicate a person who is consistently and clearly attracted to individuals of the same sex so to have a romantic kind loving relationship of the kind traditionally accepted and encouraged between a man and a woman.
Now, it so happens that I have no dislike for SSL. I am not taking pride in my lack of dislike or neutrality on the subject. What I feel is automatic, not of my willful choice, is based on past indoctrination, teachings at a young age. For the same reason I do not take pride in disliking raisins in pastries (I will take them out before eating), I do not take pride in not disliking SSL. I am not an SSL person, it just so happens.
It is not that I am open minded and evolved, again, my prejudices and dislikes happen to reside elsewhere.
It is okay with me if a person dislikes SSLs. It doesn’t mean a person is a bad person unless they ACT on their dislike and hurt others.
I do feel badly for every SSL for the sufferings he or she went through or is still going through because of being an SSL, because of people who act on their dislike of SSLs. It makes life oh, so much more difficult and I regret that and my empathy is with the SSL person for that reason.
If there is an SSL person reading this who needs to come out of the closet (anther term), to discuss the issue, the struggles, please do. This will also be an opportunity for anyone who dislikes SSLs reading such a post to react honestly and yet respectfully. It will be an opportunity for accepting our automatic dislikes, honoring ourselves in doing so, and yet not acting disrespectfully based on the dislike.

I admire him, but as someone with SSL friends and organized many GSA events in my high school [which is a club called “Gay Straight Alliance] I was shocked. But what he said I respected. He said ‘I do not like gays, but I don’t hate them, I simply do not agree. They seem nice, just stay away.’ See, long story short, it was my cousins wedding and the reception hall had rented the room next to ours for a rainbow dance [as it was called] and her husband’s half disappeared once the dance started because they were Salvation Army [incidentally, what’s the plural of that? Armiest?] And it went against their belief and they booked it because it was sinful to be in the same building at them. My side, while most were anti-SSL, all held the same sentiment as my uncle. Basically ‘these people having fun are bothering you how?’ Actually, they said we could join them since our party was winding down at 9 lol.
Personally, I feel everyone should have equal rights [provided you’re not harming someone] and I’ve always found it hard to understand how two strangers in love could ruin your life? I’ve got enough problems I don’t need to make someone else miserable.

Thank you for your comment. Army- armies. You wrote it is hard for you to understand how two strangers in love can ruin one’s life. I agree. It is interesting, I know how not liking raisins in cake feels like and I am prejudiced against … Lost Angeles City workers (over paid, over compensated, under skilled, paid and spoiled till death with tax payers money… see, here I am going on about this) but I do not understand what it feels like to dislike men because they like men or dislike women because they like women and feel repulsed by these men and women. Lucky that way, I suppose. I have enough dislikes to deal with. Thanks for using my SSL term.

January 8, 2016 at 6:34 pm #91833AnonymousGuestOh, I am no expert at English. Salvation Army stores. Salvation Army centers..? Don’t know…
