    Hello,

A while ago I had a mental breakdown of sorts and found it really hard to trust people. This led to me being a recluse for a while, and due to circumstances I’m not going to be able to really go out and see any close friends for a while too. I’m slowly putting things back together. For example, I’m mending a relationship with a parent and also discovering how to feel less alone in the world. I’m also trying to connect with people that can give me a new appreciation for life. Currently, I want to find a good pen pal website so I can learn about another culture and someone’s life experiences. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Also if anyone wants to be a pen pal on here I wouldn’t mind. 🙂

    Dear Zariah:

By pen pal, I assume you mean you want to communicate with someone via private email, to feel closer, online, to one particular person, to exchange personal information and experiences for no particular reason other than having online company. Is that correct?

If correct, maybe someone reading this is interested in the same thing, once you make it very clear what it is you are interested in.

Otherwise, to learn about different cultures, members on this website are from all continents (other than Antarctica) and from dozens and dozens of countries. You can learn by reading their posts. Unfortunately, people don’t always get replies back following posting replies on others’ threads. I don’t. If you accept the fact that you will not get a reply every time you post, it will not be a bad experience for you to reach out to more members on their threads, as you already have, and add something you believe is meaningful to their threads. You can also keep posting on this very thread as well as start new threads on any topic that interests you.

    Anita,

Yes that is correct 🙂 I have also been using your advice and participated in other posts. I really like this online community and also I like that you take the time and effort to reply to basically each and every post.

    Dear Zariah:

Thank you. I like your replies on other threads and appreciate them. Maybe you can share more about yourself and your interests in effort to get the attention of a compatible person who may be interested in being a pen pal.

Hi Zariah! Was randomly digging through the threads, outside of my own, for once.

Few years ago, I had a huge fascination with South Korea. Started learning the language. Spent lots of money for an expensive language learning podcast (that I never finished) and everything. There’s a website called InterPals. You can message random people from wherever in the world. They allow both instant messaging and snail mail, which is awesome. It’s a great way to learn about different cultures and ways of life. I used it to harass many o’ Koreans, to better understand their culture. I never made many close friends there, but I didn’t stick around long, either. The currents of passing interest took me elsewhere. I did have a few friends there, and one even sent me a postcard from Thailand and a cute lil letter.

I think it’s definitely worth a gander if you’re alright with a lil language barrier.

(Also, I’m always around to talk to, too, I think we’d get along just swell.)

@anita: Yes I will definitely try that. I’ll try starting a thread where others can just talk about there interests?
@Sammi: Thank you! I just recently tried it out! It’s good but a lot of messages I have received involve relationship requests? Yes, if you ever need anyone to talk to or just want to start a conversation just reply to the thread 🙂

    Dear Zariah:

I am looking forward to your new thread. It just occurred to me, regarding your interest in a pen pal: I think that most members here care to be anonymous and they don’t share personal emails with other members. Rarely it happens though. I hope you get replies on your new thread. What title will you choose?

Yeah – relationship requests happen on most any social media, it seems. It’s best to just ignore them, I’ve learned. Especially if it’s someone you don’t know, it’d be a little awkward jumping into a relationship with someone you met a day ago.

Do let me know when you get that other thread up and running. 😀
