    Hi everyone,

As a person who has her share of frequent emotional ups and down with some lingering self-esteem issues, i have found this practise very helpful during the days or times i feel really bad. When the emotions become too much to handle and meditation makes me fall asleep (:P chronic problem), i open my diary and read specific days and times when i was in a different, better state of mind. I also write frequent letters to myself on good days to remind me on bad days why its not that bad and why i am okay. Sometimes we feel so bad that we start blaming ourselves like crazy, forget the good we did. These are habits of the mind that take time but this tiny thing gives me a little reminder of who i am and what i really want, what really matters to me.

Another thing would be to take one little step at a time. On days i cant seem to study or go out or do anything and feeling overwhelmed with stress of the future, i do one simple thing, say like making that list with all the things that need to be done, then i prioritize them. Writing it down really calms the mind down during that short instance. Then i proceed to do one minute thing on that list, something as simple as watering the plants or stretching. And also the usual “Good job” mental comment.

These are some teeny-tiny tips that have helped me. Meditation and other healing therapies are important but I would love to know how some of the other users go about things on a really stressful, bad day?

Hi Jess, i am new to tinybuddha but i’ve seen you commented around, you’re a very experienced woman.
Im also going to share my tips to happiness too.
Latey, I’ve been feeling down because of a recent break up… It would make me think again and again why it did not work, but we gave it too many times that now it is an obvious answer why it did not work. Anyways, what i did was …
Sometimes, when you are sad. Just smile, stand up start jumping…
If things you can’t change, worrying or thinking about it benefits us nothing…
and what comes will come. And whatever going to come, it is will turn out right.. because i trust myself, and my instinct, i know what i want and the reason why i want it so i hope, we all understand ourselves enough, we will make the right decision.
Also, i do little things as you do too…
    such as
    _Money management
_Future goals, short term/ long term
_Go for a walk at random times, or make effort to wake up early to see sunrise or wait for sunset.
_ Do some drawing, now this is if you love drawing, or do whatever what your hobbies is.
_ Learning something new! Its so rewarding and productive, download a language app, i downloaded doulingo, and busuu for french and german. i have an iPhone
_ Go around the neighbour hood, go to the park, bring your scissor…go for wild flowers hunting, and put them in a jar!! I just did mine today 🙂

Always be creative! decorate your room? clean your house? go to the library and borrow a book? go to the a quiet park and read the book?
Theres so many things to do 🙂
I hope this would help everyone to create a day full of things to do!

Hi Luna @lunamimi – you have floored me with your beautiful drawings and pictures. We need more people like you in this world. Thanks for sharing them. I am usually a very positive soul anyways but you took that positivity to a new level today. Lots of love and blessings to you. You will be in my prayers.

    Hi Jess @tsuki

Susan Jeffers has done a recording of positive affirmations. It is titled Inner talk for a confident day and you can find it here – http://www.susanjeffers.com/home/detailtemplate.cfm?catID=107 . You can get it off app store as well.

You can put the short recording on your iphone, pod, usb etc and listen to it everyday for 21 days ( better if you listen to it in the morning as a breakfast for your mind) and see the difference. I assure you that it will bring a very positive change in your life. I understand the challenges that overthinking or over active mind can bring about. Susan has a divine voice and the vibrations of her words stay with you the whole day and create a magical atmosphere. The more these affirmations become a part of your life, the more confident you become at dealing with anything that life may hand you. Why dont you atleast give it a try ?

And the suggestions that Luna has shared are really cool and I am going to give them a go myself.

    Cheers

    Jasmine

Such a useful thread I came across.
Thanks so much for initiating it Jess !!

I can feel the effectiveness of your advice already 🙂 .
Just to add my two cents to it …………may be ….just do good selflessly for someone who holds least relevance to your life. It could be as simple as asking your domestic help that how is she today and how her children are doing in studies. Or simply calling someone and reminding them of any of their best quality .

At depressed time ,it is very difficult to to do this opposed to your inclination to just recline and sulk but do it deliberately. It do works at times.

    Dear Lightseeker,

Thank you for the comment and suggestion 🙂 You made my day!

What a wonderful idea to connect with other people as well. A friend of mine has done the same. I really admire people like her who have the strength to look beyond their own problems. I wish i develop that strength too someday 🙂 Yep, it does make perfect sense to end up sulking when we get down, cuz its easy to start brooding in despair about how bad things are. I hope that over time, all of us develop more ways to develop inner resilience and maturity towards life’s ups and downs.

Good luck on your journey too! 🙂
