Tiny Buddha Book Holiday Giveaway, Week 4

The Winners:

To celebrate the holiday season, I’ve decided to do a series of giveaways for my book, Tiny Buddha: Simple Wisdom for Life’s Hard Questions, which launched right around this time last year.

If you’ve already learned about the book or purchased it, this post will be redundant for you! For those who haven’t read it, here’s a little information about it:

This is the first book of its kind—with tweets woven throughout.

I asked @tinybuddha followers a number of the most challenging questions in life, like:

  • Why is there suffering in the world?
  • What’s the meaning of life?
  • What does it take to be happy?
  • Why are relationships hard?

Since there are very few concrete answers to the big questions, I wanted to explore many varied perspectives to create a guide of possibilities for joy, purpose, and connection.

Although these tweets shaped the book, I also included a great deal of my own struggles, successes, and insights—far more than I’ve ever revealed on the blog. From my former battle with depression to my struggles with relationships, I shared how these questions have played out in my own life—and what I’ve learned at each step of the way.

Through this book, you’ll learn a few ideas to:

  • Let go of pain from the past that’s been weighing you down and holding you back
  • Create a sense of purpose, starting right now, even if you’re not doing what you want to do professionally
  • Change habits that have not served you well and open up to new, better ways of being
  • Experience happiness right now, regardless of your circumstances
  • Improve your relationships
  • Seize the moment to live more mindfully, passionately, and fearlessly
  • Find a sense of control and empowerment in an uncertain world

I will do 4 giveaways this month, 1 per week. I will choose 2 winners for each giveaway and mail all of 8 books together at the end of the month.

It’s raining in Britain, a lot! Today I smiled as I jumped into what I thought was a shallow puddle and found out it was actually a crater. Love the Tiny Buddha comments. They have helped during a difficult year x

  • So many things to smile about today! A mug of delicious fresh-brewed coffee in front of me, the aroma of beans, and eucalyptus in the air. Clear, crisp skies in the greater Seattle area, with even a hint of sun peeking through now and then! Stalling out my (first-ever-brand-new!) shiny white car in heavy traffic on the interstate on the drive home from the dealership…gotta laugh at myself struggling to drive a manual. And smiling at whatever adventures await me in 2013. I’ve made it this far, there’s no turning back!

  • Ute

My son made me smile pretending to be a seal wanting a cuddle.

  • Today I stumbled upon two things dear to me – my tape recorder, which i’ve used to spontaneously record my children in the moment. The one recording I played had my son Nathan singing a song he learned in preschool. I love the audio without the picture. It makes me use my imagination to recreate the context of the moment. Plus, a child’s laughter, that little four year old belly laugh, will make anyone smile. The other item I stumbled upon was the quote book we have kept since the birth of my seven year old daughter. I’m so happy to have both items to preserve memories.

  • Justin

Hearing from a friend that she had started driving again today after major surgery two weeks ago.

  • katehinman

Oddly enough, i laughed loudly when the electric company responded to my call asking if they would cut tree branches back off my line in my backyard. They don’t do that, so I would have to pay someone, unless….the branches interfere with my line and I lose power….then they will cut the branches back for free. It just seemed hysterically illogical and the belly laugh increased my energy level for the afternoon.

I met an elderly couple today at the hospital. When I asked them how long they had been married, they said 56 years. When I congratulated them, they looked lovingly into each others eyes and reached out to hold each other. Knowing that love can be this strong after 56 years makes me happy! I can only hope for this kind of love… 😀

The thing that makes me smile everyday is the genuine hug I get from my daughter every night at bedtime. She holds onto me so tight, I feel her need for me. We hold each other so close, it feels we share a heartbeat. As she grows up, I hope I still get these hugs every night, but on nights she is away, I can still feel her love.

A family of 4 (2 daughters – one 5yrs, one 6yrs, the mother and father) straddled on a bike, the father was riding; youngest daughter sitting in the front, on the bike, chatting away happily with her father; her father trying to catch on to every word the tiny one was saying while trying to maneuver the bike skillfully through the busy morning traffic, yet very patiently answering the kid’s questions. Multitasking at its best. 🙂

Having my ex-husband send me a picture of our grand-son through my phone, because I can’t be there right now to hold him. Thank you Allen! Also seeing smiles and hearing the laughter of my aunt and uncle, and seeing my cousin who has cancer finally have an appetite. And one more thing; finding this site. I have had the hardest time trying to forgive some people from my past that hurt me terribly. And after reading all the posts, it opened my eyes and made me feel so much better and easier to learn how to forgive. How could something so easy feel so hard to do? Thank you!

  • Rashmi

a good morning from my 1.5 year old daughter..she is the sunshine of my life and my best teacher who inspires me to live in now…!!

  • Dawn Ehasz

I have read many of the Tiny Buddha quotes and I instantly think of my daughter. She is 15 yrs old and has suffered, survived, triumphed, struggled, and beat all odds. I SMILE every time I look at her smiling face. I remember how grateful I am to have been gifted by this beautiful being. She has taught me to savor life regardless of the hand we may have been dealt.
She was struck by a truck while crossing the street in the crosswalk three years ago. She suffered a sever traumatic brain injury and numerous fractures. She has become my positive motivator throughout her recovery so far. Life has since gifted her with new talents replacing ones that have been damaged or more of a challenge.
For me waking up and seeing my kids I SMILE.
    Happy New Years! Xoxo

  • My neighborhood borders the part of town where the warehouses are. They’re very ugly, but today when I was outside photographing a hat I just finished knitting, I noticed the setting sun hitting the side of one of the warehouses and it cast a very intense yellow-orange glow that made my photographs look brilliant and happy. I love it when something you once regarded as ugly becomes beautiful. 🙂
