    Hi 🙂

    I’m Mirabelle and I’m 16.

I want to write my story because this is the only safe place I found to share these kind of things

About 2 weeks ago, I changed my religion from being a Muslim to a Buddhist. I’m living as a Buddhist secretly I told no one about this and I don’t think I ever will, not even my parents because whenever I discuss why we have to be Muslims or why is it bad to change the religion, I get directly sent to my room…And you all know what that means :/

But I still don’t care about their opinions even though in Islam, changing your religion is a horrible sin. But Buddhism is currently healing me from all the rough and hard times I’m having such as depression, OCD, social anxiety ….etc.

I’ve always been attached to spirtual things especially meditaion <3 and I read so much about Buddha and loved his way of his thinking and his attitude. I also read blogs and personel stories about people who became Buddhists and it was so beautiful how the way they think apply to mine ..

So at the moment, I’m a Buddhist and I am happy .. I’ve finally found myself and I’m working on healing it and making it happy.

So I just wanted to ask .. Is it wrong? Is it wrong changing your religion for your own good?

    Mirabelle 🙂

    Dear Mirabelle:

No, it is not wrong to change your religion for your own good. It is the right thing to make choices that are for your own good, that promote your well being.

It is wrong to suffer unnecessarily (anxiety, depression). It is right to heal from suffering.

    Hello

It is not wrong speaking as a Christian I find Buddhism easier to understand and more enlightened than the bible. To me Christianity is biased and conflicting as to morals and what is right . However in your situation you are under your parents house and rules so you might want to keep Buddhist teaching more to yourself because you know how your parents feel about it.

    Hi Mirabelle,

Did you know that there are Buddhist Christian, Buddhist Jews and dare I say Buddhist Muslims? Buddhism is a way of life as well as a way of thinking. And is one of the few religions that lets you practice others as well. Yes, as long as you live in your parents house you are Muslim. You have no choice, really. But when you have your own place and as the world becomes more and more secular and free thinking you can express yourself more fully!

    Peace,

    Inky

    Hi Mirabelle,

I am a Buddhist, and I also believe in the good of all other religions. Like others have stated, for the time being when you are living with your family, you would be practicing Islam. I think the questions you asked your parents about why you are of that religion, and why it is bad to change religions are hard questions (but they’re really good questions!) and rarely do people have answers for these types of questions.

You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re just trying to be you and finding your identity 🙂

    Take care!

    Hana
