Thomas168ParticipantDear Anita,
Sorry. It is not nightmarish as much as the norm. I too wish it was better but it is the reality we live in. Have a healthy, happy and safe year.

Thomas168ParticipantOh, thought of something.
Alessa, do not feed tap water direct from the tap to the baby. Sorry, just worried about the quality of tap water in your area. Me, I boil water in a tea kettle and then drink from that all day. I have put a whole house filter in that filters the water down to 5 microns. Not sure if that is good enough but it does remove a lot of the sediment. Iron rust mostly. Anyway, be safe. Wishing you a wonderful year coming up.January 20, 2026 at 8:13 am #454352
AlessaParticipantHi Tommy
Thanks for thinking of us. 😊 Fortunately, we are in an area with good quality soft water. No limescale or anything. I guess the main thing to worry about these days is microplastics. I really should get a water filter. I keep meaning to, but I’ve not gotten around to it yet. 🩵

Thomas168ParticipantI moved into my house here in 2011 and it was only 2024 that I put in a water filter. Now after seeing how dark and dirty the filter gets after a month of use (only takes a few days to see a difference), I wish I had done this a long time ago. It is not an expensive filter. Bought off Amazon for less than fifty dollars and that includes the housing and a filter. I am cheap. Guess I should have done the reverse osmosis but they are expensive and so are the filters. Anyway feel better I got a filter.

Thomas168ParticipantI am sorry. I tend to obsess over the littlest things. When I see that they do make a difference in my life, I wrap myself in it. Water filter, getting into see the doctor, watching the economy faltering, it gets to me. Oh yeah, the economy. I almost forgot. All the CEOs are selling their stocks and liquidating. Owners or Microsoft, facebook, Amazon are all selling huge amounts of their person stock for cash. When the rich are selling their stock, all the while touting that AI will make huge advancements, it is a sign that no one knows how to monetize AI. The national debt of 38 trillion dollars. The Global cash currency is moving to BRICS. No more US dollars as reserve currency for other nations. Once they start to sell, the US will go straight into a severe depression. This is on a timeline of about 36 months. Sorry, you see how I get. My mind get wrapped up in this crazy stuff.

AlessaParticipantHi Tommy
Please don’t worry! 🩵 You’re perfectly fine. 😄 I’ve just not recovered from that bug yet. I have asthma and it got into my lungs, turned into a chest infection and filled them with fluid. So I’ve been a bit down in the dumps. It’s slowly starting to improve a bit now. 🩵
I think the filter is a great idea. I might look on YouTube about fitting one. I grew up in a hard water area where we would use a filtration jug. But a filter under the sink would be less hassle if it’s not hard to fit. 🩵
I’m afraid I don’t know much about the economy. I know that things are not in a good way for the UK though. Brexit and COVID devastated our economy. It’s like two hits in a short span of time.
What are BRICS? That doesn’t sound good at all… 🩵

Thomas168ParticipantBRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising ten countries: Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. Their purpose is to dethrone the dollar as the world’s reserve currency. With the US debt at 38 trillion dollars, some one has to hold the borrower’s notes. Those notes are held by other countries and banks and other investors. Those notes also have a maturity date when the money must be paid back with interest. If all those other countries who hold these treasury bonds decide they don’t want to hold them then the US might be forced to pay those notes back which the US does not have. To pay it back the US might be forced to either default or print money to pay back the notes. Defaulting brings no confidence in the dollar then everyone will dump the dollar. If print money then inflation and the value of the dollar falls like a brick. Sorry, have been watching too much YouTube about the US debt. This cycle of the rise and fall of empires is well known. From the rise and fall of Rome. To the rise and fall of Spain. To the rise and fall of the Dutch. To the rise and fall of the UK british empire. Elon Musk wasn’t kidding that we need to cut the national deficit. Again, my apologies for my obsessions.

Thomas168ParticipantHope you feel better soon. The under the sink idea is good. What prompted my to put in a filter, it was one day the water came out the faucet dark. It was due to the fire fighters clearing the fire hydrants in my area. They do that once a year to check on the hydrants. So, I put in a water filter and found out the water is full of sediments. Mostly iron or rust. Really glad I got it in.
Take good care of yourself and the baby. And the rest of the family.

AlessaParticipantDear Anita
Thanks so much! I’m feeling better. 😊 How are you doing? You’ve been quiet recently? 🤍

anitaParticipantHey Dear Alessa:
You are very welcome, so good to read that you are feeling better 😊 💐. Well, it’s been slow here in the forums, I didn’t feel like posting in my own thread and I didn’t want to write much to you because of your cold/ chest infection.. I wanted to give you space. I always read your posts and whenever you want to talk to me, just give me a shout (here or in any of my existing threads).
🩵 🙏 🤍 Anita

AlessaParticipantHi Tommy
But isn’t cutting the national deficit impossible? It’s an issue faced by many western countries. I heard that the national deficit for economies already impacted is predicted to only exponentially increase. 🩵
I guess the UK is a testing pot right now as our deficit is the largest of any western country. I don’t know all of this is going to affect us.
I heard that it is very difficult to make changes to policies because they are set by the wealthy who are propping up the country. One solution proposed is to increase taxed on the ultra-rich. Of course, the ultra wealthy aren’t going to go for that. Some countries are already testing playing with the wealth taxation.
The BRICS thing is fascinating. I can’t complain too much. I didn’t realise that since world war 2 money transfers across the world have to be pushed through the American economy first. I hear that this is particularly devastating for developing countries since borrowing is based on USD and when the USD fluctuates they are left with massive amounts of debt. I guess it is a levelling of the playing field. The world is uncertain and tensions are growing. 🩵
Interesting! We don’t have fire hydrants in the UK. We just have grates that they lift up on the ground that allow the fire engines to connect to water supplies. I expect pipelines are a universal problem. When I lived in a small town by the countryside we had dark water during summer sometimes. Our water supply was being contaminated by local farmers. 🩵
Thanks so much for the advice and the well wishes. I’m feeling better now! Take care, thinking of you and your family. 🩵

Thomas168ParticipantSorry, my obsession is not the best to ponder upon as it brings up images of a poor state of affairs. And that is not what we want for our future. My wish is to be wrong about the coming depression. When things get really bad, the only thing worth anything is land, skill and tools. With these, one can get thru the hardest of times. Land to grow food. Tools and skills to get thing done. One can be sitting upon lots of gold but it does no good cause one can not eat gold. Sorry, now getting into my fears of a bad bad time.
