Dear Tom:
I wanted to follow up with the social get-together that I initiated because of you (following replying to your recent post 10 hours ago.
It lasted for a couple of hours at a brewery a few miles north of where I live. I met 2 people whom I didn’t see for months: one (almost 55 years old), having had his lower left leg amputated earlier this year, and today, he was wearing a prothstetic. First time I saw him with a prosthetic. He said (this afternoon): “I have to wake up on my right foot now, every day 🙂”
And another, 65 years old or so, having lost his wife of 40-50 years to cancer back in May. Tonight, he seemed to be having a very friendly, special-looking conversation with T (a woman his age, or a bit younger).
And I thought: how life seems to be moving ahead when people let it. I had the image of his dying wife in my mind (I saw her close to death) along with his tonight’s I’m-still-alive face.
And there were 3 other people I knew from earlier. Thing is, when the eve was over, it was still only afternoon (daylight saving time was reversed today) So, still.. 8:25 pm now while it feels like 11:25 pm. Or 12:25 am.
