In browsing the forum topics my heart smiled when I saw “Flower Arranging” as a topic.

My mind drifted back to 2004. I’d been sober for about 3 months and still felt like crawling out of my own skin. Every day that I walked home from breakfast I passed the little flower shop on Del Prado Avenue in Dana Point. I still don’t know what possessed me to go in and buy $70.00 worth of random flowers.

I just walked around the store and grabbed a huge assortment of clippings. I asked if it would be ok if I arranged them myself. 30 minutes later the girl at the counter made a comment about “the lucky girl.” I just smiled and carried them home.

I kept my eye on that bouquet. As flowers wilted I pulled them and moved things around to fill the gaps. Each day I spent time.

It wasn’t until my fourth or fifth visit that I told the flower seller girl that I’d been buying these for me. That arranging them somehow brightened my day, and that I needed a pick-me-up. She knew exactly what I meant, she said she feels the same way every day.

If you’re feeling a little down, go buy yourself some flowers. Maybe even put in a little card that says “I love you.”

    It worked for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Flowers always pick me up too! For a long time I thought of them as an unnecessary expense, but then I realized how much joy it brought me to have a bouquet of colorful gerbera daisies on my kitchen table. It never occurred to me to arrange my own bouquet, but what a great idea!

I love flowers as well. My older sister isย a master gardener and floral designer.ย For years I admired her beautiful creations, acknowledging her training and creativity which enabled her to produce such wonderful results. Then one day a couple of years ago, I decided to try my hand at arranging some artificial flowers. I became totally absorbed in the task, and without any knowledge ofย or training on how to do it, made a presentable arrangement. Since then I have made lots more – my home is full of beautiful flower arrangements and I have had many comments on how beautiful they are. Hey, you never know what you can do until you try, so go ahead, give it a go.

Oh I love flowers especially hand-picked exotic botanicals. It’s like a free gift from Mother Nature that’s meant to give us a healthy dose of happy.

This is totally off the spectrum of enjoying a vase full of freshly cut roses and burying my fingers in a pile of rich aromatic earth, I will agree. To regain my usual happy composure, I must confront my discomfort and seek to erase away the pain. It is imperative for me to crawl out of this quandary and raise my awareness to a whole new leve of thinkingl. For me a heavy dose of Thelonious Monk along with a pint of Guinness at home usually works quite well. If this is not an avenue of thought for you, does not agree or goes against the grain of your lifestyle. May I please ask for a pardon and your understanding?

Tim, what a wonderful idea ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve always loved flowers but never really think about getting them. A month into a breakup from a 2 year relationship and I think that would really help liven up my house. Thank you for posting this ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sharing, Tim. I think Iโ€™ll go find some flowers to cut and arrange tomorrow. I never was much into growing or buying flowers until I went and visited a friend with a flower farm. I spent a week helping her and watching her make arrangements. When I got home, I began to notice the flowers in my environment. Then I went out and cut some and made a pretty little arrangement. It was so fun!

I like using wildflowers since Iโ€™m too cheap to buy from floral shops. ๐Ÿ™‚

    all very good

Great things to know! Good would be fun.
Buying flowers for your own, I think, I’m gonna grab some for me.

I would save little jars or bottle, filled the bottom with rock or sand then go for a walk, hunting for the flowers at the park or near the neighbourhood x) i am so bad! But little naughty things like that makes life fun!!
I am a flower lover, thank you for this tip! I really should spoilt myself with some flowers to brighten my days ๐Ÿ™‚

Flowers are good … I mean the ladies love ’em … But when I’m really really sad (which is quite often as I suffer from chronic depression) I just go look the closest mirror when I wake up. My reflection confirms that I’m still alive and if one day there’s no reflection then I’ll still not be sad cos then I’d have nothing at all to worry about.
