Hello again, Sleipnir 🙂

Yes, it’s hard to know you’re helpless in situations when you really are helpless.

This reminds me of the Serenity Prayer which is about this very issue. Here it is:

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; the courage to change the things I can; and the wisdom to know the difference.”

Does the prayer (which does not require a belief in any particular god, or in any god at all) resonate?

In your other thread thst I just replied to, you asked about exercises to gain wisdom. I think that the serenity prayer (which includes the word “wisdom”) is one such exercise.

Anita
I will do what I can and my mother also told me about the Serenity Prayer. But the problem is places like it still exist. I want to do something so badly.
Hi Sleipnir:

If your legs are bothering you, I think one of the best things you can do is get a good pair of supportive walking shoes and, if possible, ask a doctor or podiatrist whether arch supports or custom orthotics would help with your flat feet.

For exercise and weight loss, I’d focus on things that are easy on the joints. Walking is good if it isn’t causing too much pain, but a stationary bike, swimming, or water exercise can be gentler on your knees and ankles while still helping you get fit.

The water-jar lifts are actually a nice start for your arms. You might also add some simple chair squats, wall pushups, and gentle stretching for your calves and legs. A little bit done consistently is usually better than doing too much at once.

Most importantly, don’t try to push through significant pain. If your joints are becoming stiff or painful, it would be worth talking with a doctor so they can check whether arthritis or something else is contributing to it.

Take care of those legs. You’ve got many years ahead of you, and small changes now can make a big difference later. 🙂

Anita
I already wear orthopedics. I’m going to need to get better ones.

Good Sunday morning, Sleipnir:

It’s understandable that yelling stresses you to an extreme point. Even when it’s someone else (not you) who is yelled at, and even when it happens in a different room, the yelling still reaches you (it’s the nature of sound.. walls don’t stop it.)

I think that yelling would stress almost everyone, but it disturbs more so people on the autistic spectrum.

I too am stressed by loud, unwelcomed sounds although I was never diagnosed with autism. It’s like those loud sounds (like a neighbor playing loud music) is just too much for me. It disturbs me a whole lot.

In your second post, you asked about exercises to gain wisdom. Well, wisdom has nothing to do with noise sensitivity/ sensory overload. These are neurological.

What can help is that staff members where you live get educated about the negative effects of yelling (and other loud sounds) on residents, as well as noise canceling headphones.

What do you think, Sleipnir?

🤔 Anita

Yeah but it’s everyday with this guy and the staff. He doesn’t understand how sick he is. He also sometimes throws things at the staff or attacks them and that adds a frightening aspect to it?

She also, just to be clear, might be young, I know they do foolish things at that age from experience (she might actually if your not making sure she doesn’t might share illegal pictures of herself or something serious.) Keep an eye on her.

You have to be critical, but realize 25 is the age when the brain fully develops, so if the behavior continues past then, (and I grew out some problematic behavior at 25) then worry a whole lot more.

And yes the advice on this page is great, but this could just be a girl not dealing with her hormones properly.

And it sounds like the parents need to get her to understand some things, remember, if they don’t do anything, there’s not much you can do.

or a problem to be controlled.

But control is an illusion especially when it comes to other human, so that’s an unhealthy mindset in general even with material things. That’s what I’ve been learning for years…
Mom says that too? And what does Sleipnir say? 🙂
I guess I say that it does feel like something is happening, but I should talk to a doctor first?
Good Saturday morning (it is here), Sleipnir 🙂

Sometimes a feeling motivates us to say or do something. For example (taking it from your new thread), you feel anxious about your health (a feeling), so you started a new thread about your health concerns, asking for advice (a doing).

Sometimes we feel something, and next, we believe something that is not true, or we catastrophize (believe something is way worse than it is). For example, “my legs are going bye bye?” (from the same new thread).

Did I answer your question, Sleipnir?

🤔 Anita
Yeah, mom says that too?

Sleipnir, could you help me understand what you mean? I’m not familiar with Opal or the newer My Little Pony series, so I’m having trouble following the connection between Opal, Opaline, and Misty. What similarities are you seeing? 🙂

Anita

Opal is a Cartoon in which a child enters a house full of abusers.

Opaline is a Villain in My Little Pony Make your Mark and My Little Pony Tell your Tale.

Misty is henchmen of Opaline’s who suffers abuse at her master’s hooves.

What I mean simply abuse like this is created by generations of pain and suffering, the situation in Opal is created by a violent disturbed my mother who had problematic childhood.

In My Little Pony Opaline feels she was never good enough thereby has become a violent disturbed narcissist and abuses Misty in what a first seems to be slapstick but then turns into full out bullying by a mother figure.

You can watch MLP G5 on Netflix and YouTube and watch Opal probably on YouTube as well.
Still, a good Sat morning, Sleipnir 🙂

I’ll answer you on this thread and in the new one later in the day.

For now, I’m fascinated by your answer:

“To become a Great Artist”- what kind of Great Artist, I wonder..?

🤔 Anita
A artist that says things that need to be said, I guess?

Being bothered by this shows you have compassion. But, compassion without wisdom makes for a faulty combination.

Well, I am praying to my Gods for wisdom (I’m Norse Pagan) but I need to know some exercises to gain it?

It’s hard to know that your helpless, because it hurts you pride, but I it is a pain which must be felt? I must know that I am limited, small, although intelligent.

It also encourages crazy corner politics, if you’re leftwing it tries to get you into communism and anarchism and if you’re rightwing it tries to get you into nazism and libertarianism. It kills your empathy with that and it tries to get into radical atheism or fundamentalist religion. It’s basically a radicalization machine that makes you into a monster.

Sorry if this post violates any rules.
Hello Sleipnir,

You are wise to seek freedom from your past. Holding onto the past would only cause you more pain and suffering.
Forgiving the unforgiveable is really the only way to find the freedom you seek.
How do we begin? First, we try not to think of the past. Not to bring those memories up.
Cause it is like holding onto a rock. The harder you hold on then the more it begins to hurt.
When you finally let go, relief.

Much like meditation. We are trying to separate ourselves from the thoughts that arise.
We aren’t trying to stop the mind or thoughts. We are really trying to let go of the thoughts.
Not to let them control ourselves. If we spend time in self observation then we can see how the mind works.
If someone says something to anger us then our minds will jump to justify the anger. The thoughts prop up the emotions.
So, we are letting go of the thoughts so they do not have a hold upon us.

There are many stories or being hurt and seeking revenge. Revenge brings no happiness.
Cause revenge doesn’t erase the hurt. No one can remove the hurt you feel.
Only you can control whether that hurt makes you stronger or get a stronger hold on you.

Buddha spoke of the second arrow. When someone is hit with an arrow, their minds continue to hold onto it.
Wondering where it came from. Who did it. Never letting it go. So, that is suffering.
Simple concept but so hard to accomplish.

I hope you seek out a teacher and learn more Buddhism to help you release those thoughts and memories.
Live a happy life. Cause the best revenge is living a good life.

Tommy
I guess I’m holding on to it not for me, but others. The facility I was in stayed open for years after I left hurting more people, killing some. I have survivor’s guilt! How do I rid myself of that? I’ve picked this up for others, but there’s no I can do…

Which ones give me some links and a list?

Also I live in a place that’s pretty hot, but also pretty wry?
